چکیده

Large-area hydrologic modelling can play an important role in policy planning related to water and land management issues. Models are often required to assess the impacts and risks of management alternatives on the availability and quality of water in large and complex river systems. This paper describes the Hydrologic Unit Model for the United States (HUMUS): a decision support system designed for making national and river basin scale resource assessments. The components of the HUMUS system include: (1) the basin-scale Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model; (2) a GIS to manage spatial inputs and outputs; and (3) relational databases of climate, soil, crop and management properties. The HUMUS system was applied and validated against ̄ ow sediment at three scales: (1) the entire conterminous US; (2) the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo river basin; and (3) The Richland and Chambers creeks watersheds. HUMUS is currently the basis of numerous impact analyses designed to improve water resources management at the local, regional, national, and international scales.

Hydrologic responses of watershed assessment to land cover and climate change using soil and water assessment tool model

Predicting the impact of land cover and climate change on hydrologic responses using modeling tools are essential in understanding the movement and pattern of hydrologic processes within the watershed. The paper provided potential implications of land conversions and climate change scenarios on the hydrologic processes of Muleta watershed using soil and water assessment tool model. Model inputs...

A quantitative phosphorus loss assessment tool for agricultural fields

In the United States, government sponsored conservation programs are under increasing pressure to quantify the environmental benefits of practices they subsidize. To meet this objective, conservation planners need tools to accurately predict phosphorus (P) loss from agricultural lands. Existing P export coefficient based tools are easy to use, but do not adequately account for local conditions....

Daily Pan Evaporation Modelling With ANFIS and NNARX

Evaporation, as a major component of the hydrologic cycle, plays a key role in water resources development and management in arid and semi-arid climatic regions. Although there are empirical formulas available, their performances are not all satisfactory due to the complicated nature of the evaporation process and the data availability. This paper explores evaporation estimation methods based o...

Advances in the application of the SWAT model for water resources management

Developments in computer technology have revolutionized the study of hydrologic systems and water resources management. Several computer-based hydrologic/water quality models have been developed for applications in hydrologic modelling and water resources studies. Distributed parameter models, necessary for basin-scale studies, have large input data requirements. Geographic information systems ...

Comparison of Single- site and Multi-site Based Calibrations of SWAT in Taleghan Watershed, Iran

Calibration of model is critical for hydrologic modeling of large watersheds in a mountain watershed. In this study Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) used to comparison a single-site calibration procedure that employed streamflow measurement at outlet of watershed to a multi-site calibration method that used streamflow measurements at three stations (Galinak, Joestan and Dehdar). Results sh...
